I pick up information about your street regularly as I hold the name McIlwrick on behalf of The Guild of One Name Studies. This is because I have a Google alert set up to inform me as soon as any new reference to the name occurs anywhere on the web!
I live in Edinburgh, Scotland where the name has been used since 1495.
Your street however, is named after William Matthew McIlwrick who served Prahran as Mayor for a number of years. His father William McIlwrick was my great grandfathers brother.
William senior obtained a British Patent when in Australia for a type of shears used for opening tins many years ago.
William Junior I believe lived in the street.
