Reviews of Mount Ommaney, QLD

"A great location not far to the CBD and close to motorways"

I have lived in Mount Ommaney for 7 years now. I chose it because the homes were on larger blocks and it has a medium sized shopping centre close by with the major department stores. It’s a short drive to Indooroopilly if you are looking for more upmarket shops. The CBD is within 15km. There are good playgrounds, three closeby primary schools including an excellent Lutheran private school.

Looking for a home in Mount Ommaney?

"Lived here for over 30 years"

I moved here when new houses were still being constructed, there was no high school, no police station and Mount Ommaney Centre was a strip mall basically with a small Coles. It's grown up since then. It's safe, kids still walk to school and ride bikes. The trees have grown to form an impressive canopy which supports an ever expanding assortment of wildlife and birdlife. I've seen echnidna in my yard a few times. It is important to identify the streets with traffic noise though. One end of Mount Ommaney Drive is quite busy, the other end towards Jindalee is very quiet. I live in one of the private Courts, it's so quiet at night that the only thing that disturbs my sleep are the possums running across the roof. Be warned though, lots of trees and vegetation means lots of gardening tasks. If you'd rather not be in the garden, there are other suburbs that might better suit.

"Fantastic place to settle down"

Moved into the area two years ago from Sydney, best decision we ever made. Great suburb, clean, safe and well established. Great community feel. All amenities very close.

"Mt Ommaney a hidden gem in the centenary suburbs."

Mount Ommaney was developed as part of the Centenary Project in 1959. It, along with surrounding suburbs such as Jindalee are known as the Centenary Suburbs. Mount Ommaney is located on the southern side of the Brisbane River and the majority of the properties are located on the hill itself. A relatively large section of Mount Ommaney is forest that is protected by the Brisbane City Council and will not be developed, this includes the area next to the river that was once a stone quarry. Many of the lots in Mount Ommaney are around or in excess of 1000 square metres. Mount Ommaney has one golf course/country club that offers dining overlooking the course and across to the hill and creek. The Mount Ommaney Shopping Centre is located on the outskirts of the suburb and is opposite to the Mount Ommaney Hotel. Homes on the top of the hill generally have great views either to the CBD of Brisbane, the suburbs, the countryside on the opposite side of the river or the river itself, Theses houses tend to be very expensive as spare residential land is rare in Mount Ommaney.

Not great for

  • Lots of traffic around the shopping centre

"Best suburb in Brisbane"

I am loving living here. We bought the house of our dreams up on a hill and love the neighbourhood because everyone is so friendly, have beautiful gardens and take good care of their houses. I like living somewhere where your neighbours greet you every time they see you.

Mt Ommaney has a fantastic shopping centre, a good choice of restaurants, and close to good schools. The shopping centre could use a cimema though. That is my only gripe about the shopping centre.

Mt Ommaney has plenty to offer but if you do decide to go to the city, it's only a short drive or bus trip away.

Not great for

  • Lots of traffic around the shopping centre

tunneldude

The Legacy Way tunnel will provide a boon for anyone who bought in Mount Ommaney. The Western Fwy is set to be widened to 3 lanes in and out which will cut congestion, making a 1 hour commute 30m in the peak. But living too close to the fwy will be hell with new noise. Too close to river you get flooded, therefore try and buy up high away from the fwy and river.

Gangster

too noisey for my liking
