New Rochelle has 3 Magnet Schools... Barnard Early Childhood Center which offers a lottery program and is for pre-K -2nd Grade , Daniel Webster which offers a Humanities Arts Program and Columbus which offers a Science-Math-Technology program..http://www.nred.org/www/nred/site/hosting/DEPARTMENTS_Files/Curriculum_Instruction_Files/Magnet%20Brochure.pdf This means that you can apply for admsision into these schools even though you are not in that school's zip code but you are a resident of New Rochelle.. Call the School District for more information!

Magnet schools are a great educational model. As someone with a teaching background I believe they can be great for kids, helping them immerse themselves in academic content at young ages, which will help them become better readers and thinkers. When I was writing my review of New Rochelle I was very impressed with what the district accomplishes.
