There were 11,132 US born residents living in Melbourne at the time of the 2006 census and 16,339 in Sydney. Not significant in comparison to the total population of those cities.

Hey advisor,

I know a few Canadians who live here, but no Americans. Very much in stark contrast to finding Australians in London...THEY ARE EVERYWHERE!

Do you know any aussies living in America?

No can't say that I do... But, I considered moving to Australia pending the outcome of the recent election in America.

I have heard a few Amercian accents on the North Shore and Eastern Suburbs of Sydney lately. I think they live there because they don't seem to be tourists. FYI these are the more expensive suburbs of Sydney.

Australians in London - lucky UK. We have plenty of Brits here too. Most are on working holidays also. British backpackers treat Aussies like an inferior race. But I do love the British sense of humour and accents. My grandmother was British.

There are also a few Canadians I know in Sydney. They complain about how cold it is in Sydney in winter!!! Because most homes here don't have central heating.
I would not leave America to live in Australia. The cost of housing is higher here. America is still a great country - what have you got to gain? We have our problems here too. Crime is on the rise.

P.S I recently went to the Blue Mountains near Sydney and there were bus loads of American tourists. I have never seen so many Americans in Australia as I have recently. They were lovely people and made me laugh.

I thought about re-locating to Australia a few years ago.. seemed to me that it was almost impossible. My parents had the choice back in '67 to go there or to the US from the Uk..(really? that was a choice!) Ended up in Mich (detroit...hello) anyway..I plan to visit someday :)

I think it would be great if you came here for a holiday. Make sure you see Sydney, the Blue Mountains, Tasmania and Queensland. Allow plenty of time to get around. Some people from overseas think you can drive from Sydney to Brisbane in about 4 hours. It takes about 15 hours. It is a big country and worth seeing.

I once worked with a woman from the UK who moved to Sydney. She wanted to move to USA and her husband wanted to move to Australia. She seemed a bit disappointed that her husband got his way.

Maybe if you are not happy in Detroit you could change locations. At least you have plenty of choices in the USA.

No country is perfect these days and politics is not a good reason to move to the other side of the world. Amercia is getting slowly back on its feet. It would shock you if you saw what $500,000 buys you in Sydney - just a very modest place and not in a good suburb. Sydney has the 2nd most expensive real estate in the world after Vancouver.

I would like to visit America - but Europe is first on my travel list.

Cheers

Born in the UK, I worked in the States for 5 years, My son is American as he was born there, I then migrated to Sydney so does that count?

My opinion, Australia has the Best of America and the Best of the UK all rolled into one... leaving the Not so good of both behind... :O)

What a very nice thing to say that Australia has the best of USA & UK rolled into one. I'm glad you are happy living here.

MaKat,

I'm very happy living in Sydney and feel as Australian as if I were born here. I now help others that choose to relocate to Sydney find their new home and get settled without the stress often associated with such a move.
