Another fare hike?

MTA is talking about increasing fares starting January 14.

They're looking at increasing a monthly pass MetroCard to $105, up from $81. And there are other increases too - but they are not too detailed yet - very uneven.

What effect do you think another fare hike will have on the city's economy? (Yeah, I know the effect on wallets)

The hike in fare will really stretch the economy. People can barely afford those monthly cards as it is. Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't they just increase it to $81 this year? They are really making it difficult for people to get around. The more that they continue to raise prices, the less people will be willing to commute to the city. They are especially foolish to increase MTA prices because most people won't take their cars into the city because it costs so much to park it and finding a free, legal parking space takes a lot of luck.

Looks like it

They will have public hearings, the first is Jan 14.

Looks like they have several ideas - I favor the ones that increase single rides but keep the price the same for round trip. Don't think they will be able to do this before spring, so it's to everyone's benefit to show up and comment.

If they raise the prices too high, for some people it will not matter if they drive or take public transportation. Some will pay the extra for parking to save time, and it won't be that much extra.
