Can you use the store bought “digital TV box” with CATV; instead of using the cable’s company’s RENTED equipment?

@advisor2008 I think you have to use the cable company's rented equipment to receive it's signal not any other set up box will do. We have always used Time Warner's own cable box and have never really experimented with any other.
