No, but I wanted to see it when it was in theaters last year.... you just reminded me that I really need to send some Netflix movies back. What did you tell Congress? I thought that doc had more to do with Japan...
It does have to do with Japan but there's plenty that we can do. This slaughter started because of places like Sea World.
@JenMac Why Sea World? I also thought it was the Japanese consumption of tuna that was driving the Blue Fin tuna to extinction.
Sea World and other water parks of the sort pay 150,000 us dollars for a trainable dolphin to put into captivity and make them do "tricks" for food. Most of the dolphins don't live very long that way. The way it was explained is that bc they use sonar and they're in this tiny tank, it would be like putting a human in a small room of endless mirrors (i.e. you start to become very disoriented and you cant see what's really what. But, the real problem is that the fishermen in Japan that catch these dolphins, round up hundreds of them at a time, let the trainers pick which ones they want for the parks, etc, and then slaughter the rest. Supporters claim they eat the meat. But, you can't eat dolphin meat because the mercury levels are beyond toxic. Others argue that it's "pest control" because the dolphins eat too many fish. Really, it's just a senseless killing of over 20,000 dolphins a year. It's truly horrible.
@JenMac That is indeed truly horrible. Dolphins are adorable creatures ,it would be a tragedy if they were to become extinct.
Wow...that is very sad. And kind of absurd. Is $150,000 worth catching so many dolphins? Or are the dolphins just captured on accident or something?
