I am searching now myself... after living in North County for many years [empty nester now[. Where did you end up. I am seeking a more lively neighborhood than Encinitas.... music, culture, etc. Thinking of Hillcrest of Marina District

Hillcrest, Mission Hills, Bankers Hill are all great communities that have the things you are looking for.

Collectively it is the 92103 zip code.

Little Italy is another great community, but not walking distance to whole foods. There is a weekly farmers market and a few great specialty food shops.
