There are many areas that are good for families. However, a lot of FIFO families like to live near the beach so that the time off can be spent having fun! Most beaches are some distance from the airport but well within an hours drive. Other FIFO families prefer to be closer to the airport - 10-15 mins is possible. You can still get a nice spot for a good price, but then the beach is further away! You have probably already moved by now, but I just thought I would answer in case it helped someone else.
