The Portola neighborhood in San Francisco is a pretty quiet neighborhood. You are relatively close to the city so you can hop on BART and be in the middle of the action in no time. Traffic makes driving into SF proper a little bit more challenging. You are also surrounded by neighborhoods with less than spectacular reputations for crime and the homes here are pretty small and packed together.
Other than that, this is a nice, affordable place to live.
