Best Places to Taste Chocolate
1. TCHO - located on the Embarcadero. Daily tastings until 6pm. Organically made chocolate. What's not to love?
2. Coco Bella Chocolates - Union Street. They always offer you a free sample when you walk in, worth the trip.
3. Recchutti Chocolates - Ferry Building. On Saturdays they usually offer a specific item for tasting to appease the Farmer's Market crowd.
4. Ghiradelli Chocoate Factory - Ghiradelli Square (North Point) they always offer you a free piece of chocolate as long as you walk through.
5. XOX Truffles
You get a free truffle with the purchase of a cup of coffee. And you always get a free sample with the purchase of any size truffles.
6. See's Candies - There is a shop located on Polk and also another in Embarcadero #3 (street level). They usually offer you a free sample as you are browsing.

Ghiradelli, OBVIOUSLY! So good. My family is also big on See's Chocolates, which you can only seem to get on the West Coast. I don't know of any places that hand it out for free, but it used to be emblematic of our trips out here when I was younger.
I'll have to check out some of those other places - free samples are always good. But which one has the BEST chocolate?
I LOVE See's chocolates! There is a shop in Embarcadero Center #3 (street level). They always offer you a free sample when you go in. In fact, almost any See's shop will offer a free sample if it is not too crowded.
I think Recchutti Chocolates is the BEST chocolate in the city. Stop by the Ferry Building and try it out for yourself.
See's used to come to the mall by my house once a year, for Christmas only. It was always a very big deal, and for years I got my aunt and uncle a box as a gift. It was almost a given. I do remember them giving out free samples all the time.
There is a See's out in Pleasant Hill by the Sun Valley Mall.
I usually get free samples from my kitchen thoough--I think my mom must own stock in them at the rate that she goes there.
