Looking strictly at the APIs of schools in San Francisco, it is pretty clear that in terms of public schools the best areas are in the Richmond and Sunset Districts where most of the 8s and higher are located. In terms of the private schools, you mostly want to look north of Golden Gate Park and into the Pacific Heights vicinity.
Best to stay out of the Mission District in terms of schools.
