move from NYC to SF - rental fees?

I'm thinking about a move from NYC to San Fran - do you have to pay broker fees to rent an apartment here?

You can usually find it by yourself. Some people will go through a broker if you are lookin for an apartment in a really nice area. But mostly, if you find it on Craigslist or similar listing, you often don't get a very high broker's fee.
