Silicon Valley or SF: Where Would You Like to Work?

According to the attached SF link many Silicon Valley firms are taking advantage of the financial crisis to move and expand their operations into the City. So where would you rather go to work if you were lucky enought to have a job with a compnay like Twitter or Zynga (makers of online games like Farmville).

Is it really any competition? SF, of course. I mean San Jose is okay and has one good song written about it, but it really is no competition in comparison with SF.

In terms of public transportation it is certainly easier to work in SF than in Silicone Valley, that's for sure. You can just take BART and then just about everything is within walking distance.

The buses, MUNI, are pretty good in San Francisco too. I take them to go to work every day. They are a lot better than in Los Angeles, that is for sure.

One of the problems with working in San Jose is that things are just too spread out to get places walking, so you end up just stuck looking for parking in your car during your lunch break. In SF you can usually walk somewhere because everything is relatively close.

I suppose that most people would work in Bakersfield if they could have jobs with Twitter or Zynga at this point. That aside, I think it is a bit of a wash. Just depends on what kind of hassels you want during your commute.

Realistically, anyone given the chance to work for an IT company in this economic environment would probably jump at the chance, regardless of location (especially considering the two are near enough to one another that you wouldn't have to move). It seems that the SF - SJ commute is actually getting MORE hairy than coming to the city from the Peninsula, given all of the young Silicon Valley professionals who are living the urban life. However, public transport hasn't quite caught up yet to new trends, so the commute into SF is far easier.

When you factor in ease of commute, cost of living and temperature (bring a parka if you are going into San Francisco for any reason), I think that the Peninsula-SF commute wins for me. However, I can understand wanting to work in San Jose as well, particularly if you crave sunshine.
