Weather...?

Okay, I know I may sound like a naive non-local by asking this question, but does it ever get warmer around here? Even in Silicon Valley it seems to get chilly at night.

I don't think it was so magnified for me until I went home to Connecticut and realized how much warmer it was there, especially at night. So, is it true that September warms up a bit, or does it stay cool like this all year-round?

Apologies if this is a repeat post, but I can't wrap my head around the temperatures around here...

I have been commenting with just about everyone I run into from long time residents to newbies on how strangely cold it has been this summer. I mean when I moved here from SoCal 20 years ago, I thought it was cold but I'm well habituated to it by now and this has got to be the coldest summer I've experienced since I have been here. It is really strange.

Sometimes we get an Indian Summer late in September where it suddenly gets warm just when you think it is going to settle in for fall--let's hope we'll get that this year because it really never felt like summer to me.

In other words, its not just you. This really is unusual.

Okay, thank goodness it's not just me then. I've heard about the Indian Summer in SF and am waiting to see it. Until then, the valley tends to stay warm but I work all over and definitely get hit with my share of cold days.

This is definitely weird weather, but not completely out of the norm. We get a summer like this every decade or so I would say. I was talking it over with my mom and she thinks she remembers other summers like this. (She has been here forever--since before I was alive.)

...so what is it like normally in August? I am starting to think it's just foggy and rainy every morning around here...

Actually it is usually like this around August, but it is warmer than it was in July and so you get a late summer feel in September. Let me try that chronologically: July: Hot! August: Coldish! September: Hot again!

That's a relief. The East Bay seems to be hot, in any case. I am in Livermore right now and was sweltering today. Looking forward to fake summer in September...

Livermore gets awful most summers! Really as you come down into the valley from the Contra Costa's you get the really bad temperatures. Makes you long for the cool bay weather within a week.

Okay, being from the East Coast originally, I am LOVING the weather we are having right now! It's only going to last through Wednesday, but I love it because you can alfresco dine in the city in so many places. And I get to wear skirts/dresses without freezing my butt off.

Now sleeping in this weather is not so nice, because none of us have air conditioners but, nothing a fan can't solve.

Yeah, I love it too! I feel like it still cools down enough at night to sleep in, especially considering how comparably hot/humid it is on the East Coast. Agreed on the skirts and dresses, agreed on the outdoor seating!

I have a bad feeling that this might be our one week of true heat however. It was definitely a welcome change of pace.

This is really weird--the Indian summer seems a lot later than usual this year. It's been an altogether strange year, by any weather standard.

@NightOwInOrinda - I agree, a strange year indeed! But don't worry, the SF weather is promising to be back to normal by tomorrow. Was nice while the Blue Angels were in town though.

Shhh! Maybe if we don't talk about it, it will stay like this until Christmas.

Oh how I wish that were true. It did get cold again today, but I was up in Napa and it was gorgeous.

Are these storms normal for this time of year? I should shut up before the weather gods hear me and make me regret having ever said anything...

I heard someone on the radio say that this was early for the rain to begin, but as I remember it this is about when we start to get the first storms. Pretty typical in the last few weeks actually. The little heat wave just when you thought we had hunkered down for the Fall followed by the mid-October rain and cold.

@NightOwInOrinda - :( yes, I think it is early for the rain too, but it usually comes by November, so it's only off by about a week and based off of the crazy cold summer we had, rain coming early doesn't surprise me. The weather is becoming so unpredictable lately.

I just hope that the weather stays okay for trick-or-treating tomorrow. The forecast I heard said that it should, but who knows.

I was hoping that late summer would mean late start to the fall, but apparently, no such luck. Although at this point, the weather is finally back to being warmer than East Coast weather for this time of year. Finally.
