Yes and no. The area around Columbia has a number of bars and Amsterdam has a few. By and large the UWS is a more family-oriented area but there are pockets of bars that make it not unbearable for the single scene. Most of the singles live downtown -- UWS is a bit sleepier but not totally unmanageable for singles because of the university.
