Mirrabooka

"Shocking..................."

I went to look at a house in Mirrabooka last week, heres what I discovered:
1) The streets are not well kept, 2) the houses are small, 3) the neighbours next door to the house I looked at were ranting in loud voices in another language for approx. 30 mins, 4) the people who walk the streets look like they're about to mug you, 5) Too much traffic coming off Reid Highway.

After my experience, I wouldn't look at a house here again.

I have lived in Mirrabooka for 9 years. Just a few comments:
1) The streets are not well kept, because the soil is really sandy, we have spent a fortune on trying to re-do our gardens but because of the lack of nutrients, no plants or grass ever stay lush and green. No excuse for having an untidy garden, but you know some of us work 6 days a week or long full-time hours and gardening is not on the priority list if you are trying to build success. But I can identify that maybe some people are just lazy, but I am sure they exist in other areas also.
2)The houses are not THAT small, it is an established area which has been around for 20 years, back then outside areas were favoured, now in the newer areas, house sizes are favoured. So it is a trend. If size is your thing, look at different areas too to find what you are looking for - also usually rentals are smaller because the maintenance for owners is easier and cheaper.
3)Every area has those 'people' who are loud. It's not the whole of Mirrabooka, I'm sure if we did a survey, other areas would have the same majority of 'Loud' neighbors. I am sure you are also not being racist.
4)I walk my dogs on a nightly basis. I am a petite 29 year old blonde, and even I don't feel unsafe in this area, if you do I would suggest staying indoors and locking yourself in at night because any area you visit will have muggers or strange looking people, I am sure they think the same of you. Yes, even the areas with good gardens.
5)Traffic. Maybe living in the country would be suited to you.

So all in all, not every area is suited to every person. I love where I live, in fact I have 2 rental houses just in this area (I also have rentals in other areas, but I cannot speak for those areas, as I do not live there), at this point I am happy to keep living here, we have never had any problems and are not threatened by any 'multicultural' residents whilst living our day to day lives. If I didn't like this area I wouldn't keep buying homes here, especially because if you look at the house prices, it isn't particularly cheap compared to newer homes on the market. I believe this area will one day be sought after, it's close to the city and central to a lot of shopping centers, markets and main roads. But believe what you like, I won't judge your suburb, because I have never lived there to know.

I agree with you AvatarBlues, what a shocking place to live. n_petal i feel sorry for you, looking at your response, you seem very angry that someone has a different opinion about Mirrabooka than you do, probably because you know as well as everyone else that it is a hole! Grow up honestly. Everyone knows Mirrabooka is a dump, and i wouldnt live there if someone paid me to.

Mirrabooka has beautiful natural bushland and untainted soil. In fact underneath Mirrabooka is a natural resevoire of fresh water. It is easy to grow native plants in mirrabooka where in a lot of other suburbs the soils have been tainted by past farming and gardening fertiliser. There is a lot of potential to develop beautiful gardens using waterwise gardening techniques.

My house may have a simplistic style, but it was sensitively built around natural bushland without knocking everything down. When there is a major storm in Perth, there is never any major damage in Mirrabooka. It has amazing birdlife.
The houses, although small, are very good quality.

And yes, there are actually people here, some who speak languages other than English, so if you don't want that, perhaps you should live in a bubble.
