Maryborough

"Great place for family and retirement"

For what this place has to offer I believe it is undervalued in comparision to other towns. I moved here recently from Brisbane and have lived in gold coast and northen nsw prior and am now glad to call this place home... Sure it not like living in the city but the town offers alot for it's buck, it seems to be going through a transition from old to new and is trying to break out of old habits.

Maryborough has enough shopping and choice to get by comfortably however you may need to goto hervey bay from time to time to get certain things.. Fantastic primary schools our kids have been in city schools and hated it but since been here they have enjoyed going to school, the smaller schools seem to offer more 1 on 1.

I live in alice st which is a main street of Maryborough as it's suppose to be a busy street I hardly notice it maybe because I'm a city person but its quiet to us and peaceful in comparison to the rat race we are used to. If u haven't been here before have a drive around and have a look at some of the old qlders here, they ooze with character and a little of tlc can make them look amazing.

It has a large number of pubs hence why they have the largest pub crawl here once a year (it's like the regions big day out type event) there are currently 3 night clubs open on weekends biggest being the Cri which sometimes has known dj's and events, so there is a nightlife here just not massive like the city. Heaps of markets happen in the region, Maryborough every thursday closes a few streets in the heart of town to put on markets, events and live acts..

Parks are fantastic for the young kids heaps of things to keep them busy there whist mum and dad feed the ducks and swans. Not a lot for teenagers except maybe movie cinemas, skate park and sports. Just remember this isn't a city with glossy coatings it's a town with a great history, a big heart and friendly atmosphere. It really depends on what you want in a town but this really is a hidden treasure that ticked all the boxes for us..

Great for

  • Cheap housing
  • Friendly people
  • Huge potential in the years to come

Not great for

  • Rates could be lower

thoroughly agree..... no, it's not a place for teenagers or young people looking for work...... but for families, business owners, retirees.....it's got a lot going for it.
We moved here from the Gold coast 5 months ago, bought a very old colonial Queenslander that we're renovating, & have settled into the local life with great ease!! We travel back down to the coast every few weeks to see family, which is an easy drive & is great for a few days getaway... but we really look forward to coming home!! The fresh produce at the markets each week is both very affordable & great value, which means we're eating healthy but cheaper than on the coast!! Yes, there's not a lot of shopping....but a trip to the bay is only 30 mins away....so thats like going a few klms in peak hour on the coast!!! ...... and there's no such thing here as traffic jams, road rage, huge busy roundabouts, parking problems etc!!! We love it......
