Landsborough

"A great place to live for growing families especially Brisbane commutors"

As a professional working in Brisbane I have found Landsborough to be a terrific place to live and bring up my family. Landsborough is a quiet, affordable and convenient township to live in - away from the hustle and bustle of the coastal suburbs. Having said that, the beaches and major shopping centres of the coast are only within an 18 to 25 minute drive.

I have found the people to be friendly and to have great community spirit. The town consists of spread out residential areas consisting of traditional house blocks through to acreage properties. The streets have appeal with many set amongst a leafy or forest backdrop. House prices are still reasonable and the rates are lower than those closer to the water on the coast side of the highway. Landsborough has the advantage of being central to everything on offer on both sides of the highway.

Landsborough is centrally located within the Glasshouse Mountains region, making all the attractions the area has to offer readily accessible. It is only a short drive to the number of lakes, mountains, waterfalls, national parks, and other attractions such as Australia Zoo. It is at the foot of the ranges with Maleny and other tourist drive destinations only a short drive away.

Transport: Landsborough has a train station that is a popular commuter point for travel to and from Brisbane, probably due its safe and secure reputation. Express train to Roma Street takes around 70 minutes. There are regular bus services from the town to all destinations over the coast including the university (again owing to the popularity of the train station). There are even free bus links between Landsborough and the surrounding townships. Parking in the town is free. Landsborough has easy access to the Bruce Highway via the Steve Irwin Way. The drive to Brisbane north side takes 45 to 60 minutes in peak morning traffic with another 25 minutes to get into the CBD.

Services: There is a medical centre in town (GPs, Dentists, Physio, Chiropractor...etc), Police Station, Courthouse, ATM, Post Office, Churches, School, and a number of businesses such as hairdressers, cafes and coffee shops, bakeries, news agent, takeaway food, mechanical and tyre, hardware, video, small supermarket, pub and the list goes on - even McDonalds is about to set up shop. Bigger supermarkets like Woolies, Aldi, and Super IGA are five minutes away in Beerwah as with other shopping opportunities and banks. A mobile library regularly comes to the main street in town, with a Sunshine Coast Library only five minutes away anyway.

Schools: Landsborough has a primary school and there are a number of other public and private primary and high schools located within the surrounding townships. The high schools in the area have particularly good reputations.

Sporting and other activities: Landsborough caters for many sports with clubs and grounds for AFL, cricket, tennis, athletics and venues for karate, dancing, music, mountain biking and others. What isn't catered for in Landsborough is covered in the nearby townships such as soccer, netball and rugby league.

Nightlife: Well Landsborough is a township and not a city nightclub area but all those things are, like any other major city suburb, a short 18 to 20 minute drive away. The Glasshouse area does have a number of pubs, good licensed restaurants, clubs etc that offer a night out with the family or friends with a number offering live music also.

Well hopefully that gives you an idea of what Landsborough has. Those were the types of things we wanted to know when we first moved here and started our family many years ago. Landsborough gave us the opportunity to enjoy the lifestyle on offer all over the Sunshine Coast while still being able to easily commute and work in Brisbane.
