Lincoln Park

"Highly desirable, but Expensive"

LIncoln Park is one of the more popular Chicago neighborhoods. It's a fantastic area to check out, have some fun, and, if you can afford it, live in. It is certainly expensive in Lincoln Park, and while I know a fair number of people who live there, they are usually a little better off, and often struggle to pay the bills even with good jobs. It's pricey.
I looked into living here, and really wanted to give it a shot, but even for modest one bedrooms you're looking at rent well north of $1000 a month. I'd say $1200 is your minimum for a halfway decent place, and in some instances it can run you far more than that. And I'm not talking about really nice, big places. These are decent places. Nothing fancy, few amenities and such. It's a tough place to live in unless you have money.
That said, LIncoln Park is beautiful, and has plenty to offer. The red, brown and purple line (express) run through the neighborhood, so if you work in the Loop like I do, you'll have plenty of options. There are also a fair number of buses. It's definitely a good place to live if you work in the city. Plenty of public transportation.
There are also plenty of bars and restaurants to check out in LIncoln Park. There are too many for me to really list out, but you'll find some of the city's best pizza at Pequods, and the bars within walking distance of pretty much the whole neighborhood are excellent.
You're also close to the lake, which is nice, and of course the Lincoln Park Zoo, which has plenty to check out, and is especially fun in the winter when the zoo lights are up. You can also ice skate there in the winter, though I have yet to try that out so I can't say too much about it.
Lincoln Park is also very safe, and is pretty good for raising kids, with good schools and medical facilities. Is it worth the high price? Maybe. But it is expensive, and will require you to have a good job and plenty of savings.
