Auburn

"One of the worst suburbs in Sydney"

Auburn is extremely dirty and filthy, overcrowded, noisy, riddled with petty crime, and just a terrible place to live. In peak hour, traffic is very bad. The only good things are that it has its own train station which isnt too far from the CBD, and that downtown Auburn has a lot of different ethnic cafes and restaurants to eat great food. Otherwise, I would liken it to a third world country.

Great for

  • Ethnic restaurants and cafes which are quite cheap
  • Good train service

Not great for

  • Dirty, overcrowded, polluted
  • Crime
  • Traffic

South Windsor

"Avoid this place at all costs"

This place is ghetto. It's dirty, full of uncouth and drunken people, extremely far away from Sydney CBD with awful public transport- the nearest station is Windsor and trains to and from the city come only every half hour, and take over an hour to get to the CBD. It is a low-socioeconomic area. Like another person who reviewed this suburb, I would say it is on par with Mt Druitt. Probably the worst area in the Hawkesbury. If you can help it, do not live here.

Great for

  • Affordable living
  • Plenty of Schools

Not great for

  • Unpleasant people
  • Terrible public transport
  • Low socioeconomic area

Bligh Park

"One of the better suburbs in this general area"

It's very family friendly, quiet, peaceful, however, it is too far away to commute to Parramatta, Sydney CBD etc. Public transport is terrible, buses to the nearest train station (Windsor) are not frequent, and train services to the city are half-hourly and take over an hour to get into the CBD. Also, drunken teens can be seen roaming the streets late at night on weekends hence it isn't very safe at night time. We've also had our house egged a couple of times, and we live in what's probably one of Bligh Park's most quiet streets. There are two public primary schools in Bligh Park, as well as a catholic primary school and a catholic high school on the edge of Bligh Park (technically in South Windsor). You will always find parking without fail. In terms of pests, we tend to get a lot of spiders in our house (even though we keep doors and windows closed). During the summer months, we probably get 2-3 per day that we see. We've also had scorpions, lizards and slugs in the house (mainly during summer).

All in all I'd recommend it for young families who don't need to commute beyond Parramatta for work. Just don't roam the streets late at night.

Great for

  • Peace and quiet
  • Close to schools
  • Neighbourly

Not great for

  • Safety issues at night time
  • Far from Sydney CBD
  • Awful public transport
