Mascot

"Living in Mascot"

Having lived in Mascot for a few years I can only give my view of living here and the pros and cons. The area feels very industrial with a stigma attached to it because of the airport. The aircraft noise whenever the wind is predominantly northerly is loud and overwhelming. We were surprised moving here how little pride people took in their gardens and unlike other areas relied on the council to maintain the nature strips. The amount of unlawful rubbish left around the streets is an eyesore as is the amount of dog crap on the footpaths. The area has some good places to eat and it is convenient to the beach and city with train and bus services. If you play golf there are endless choices of places to play. Shopping choices include Mascot, East Lakes, East Gardens and East Village. Most of the better schools are not in the suburb. The area has its newer built complexes near the station which have good amenities and have a lot of appeal, whilst most of the homes are older Californian or workers cottages. Compared to other areas of the Eastern Suburbs, Mascot is the poor cousin and the cost of housing and price increases reflect this. If you can afford another area I would strongly suggest you consider it carefully. For us Mascot was a poor choice and we’re moving on.
