Curra is a wonderful place to bring up your young family, live as a couple or spend your retirement. Housing in this area is primarily on an acerage and is as cheap as chips!. I have watched Curra grow considerably over the past 17 years that I have been a resident. Despite the amazing popularity of this area I still don't feel at all crowded. The whole area, being very close to Gympie, reminds me of the relationship that Narellan had with Liverpool in NSW 30 years ago. Today Narellan is a very large sattelite city in its own right supporting a growing population yet maintaining the rural atmosphere. I predict that Curra will develop in a similar fashion. The spaces between Curra and Gympie will fill up and the services will spread out to here.
As far as shops go, at present their is a fast food kitchen and a well stocked convenience store incorporated with the local service station, a fresh fruit and vegetable store and a Country Club located on the corner of the Bruce Highway. Shopping in Gympie provides any other goods or services you might require. There are plenty of variety of shops in Gympie with a choice of grocery stores to suit any budget. The local hospital in Gympie has recently been upgraded and there are several Doctor's offices and other Health care facilities, including aged care, in town.
The distance from Gympie to Curra is about 17 kms which is a quick, uninterupted drive down the Bruce Highway...no traffic lights or other traffic hold-ups that you might experience in the capital cities. The countryside in between the two centres is lush and green reminding me of pictures of the English countryside! This is sub-tropical Queensland we're talking about you realise! The summer is long and the winter is cool but brief. The rainfall in this area is orographic, affected by the updraft from the coast so, unless it is a time of very severe drought, the area receives plenty of rain, keeping gardens lush and water tanks full.
The school bus is a great convenience at the front gate every school day and a small local bus service operates for your convenience. Longer bus journeys can be arranged with the likes of Polleys and Greyhound picking up passengers from the local Matilda Service Station.
Curra has quite a few tradesmen in residence who enjoy the rural space and tranquility often making it unnecessary to call out people from town.
You can keep your pet pony here. There are many beautiful birds in this area and if you have a dam there will be ducks and Ibis among them. There are bountiful varieties of native animals too. The Kangaroos are my natural lawn mowers! I love to watch the birds and animals as they enjoy my block of land.
In amongst the native black wattle which springs up to protect this land whenever there is a broken space, you will find magnificent iron bark, tallowood, blood wood, mahogony, silky oak, stringy bark, bottlebrush and blue gum, just to name a few species. On the ground you will find pretty patches of alyssium, native ferns and orchids interspersed with climbing native wysteria or the fuzzy native passionfruits. Even if you don't garden at all you will have some lovely plants surrounding your home.
If you want peace and quiet, your own piece of paradise, a safe place to rear children and a private lifestyle, Curra is a fantastic choice and chances are you can actually afford to buy a nice home here.
