"Purely disappointing"

The Albury/Wodonga and surrounds are nothing short of a let down on a multitude of levels.

If you are considering moving to this area - particular from a city, I urge you not to. Be prepared to take a colossal pay cut, overall quality of life and convenience.

95% of the habitants here have never ventured further out than 20 minutes, so aren’t exactly aware of how bad a reputation this place has to the rest of the continent - and you’ll soon find that it lives up to its pitiful reputation.

This is NOT a place for young people - 18-30, or even children to a point.

If you have any ambition, hope or dream, prepare for it to be crushed by this place.

There are no career opportunities, salaries are stuck in the Stone Age - unless you’re plonked here on a VISA to work at a hospital, opportunities for sport are advertised as accessible, but you’ll find you’ll need to travel to Melbourne if your children/you wish to pursuer or excel further.

The quality of dating is a recycling pit due to the low population and the quality is just as bad - a large percentage are also drug users.

They believe they’re a Noosa 2.0 here, but they’re extremely deluded. Most people here are stuck in their ways and it’s their way or the highway. Most people will feel threatened if you come to this place from a higher position/area.

Rents are NOT cheap for what the place is and neither is food or the little entertainment which is offered. ‘Country tax’ (bumping up prices) is rife here and many industries rip consumers off 10-fold compared to the cities. There is also no nightlife, the members of councils are absolute clowns - one is a current DJ, nuff said.

I could truly write an essay on the issues within this joint, it’s an absolute scam.

Perhaps what’s most debilitating about this place, is not even its lack of opportunities, but the most prominent thing which will forever exist here.

Country mentality.

I dont disagree with everything you have said, but it offers nothing useful to this forum, because its all common knowledge.

Of course no one with big ambition and goals will ever stay in a regional town: they go to the capital cities, or even overseas. As for "country mentality", its endemic outside of the capitals, and the further inland you go, the more pronounced it becomes. Wagga Wagga, Toowoomba, its pickup truck heaven! And Ive also noticed that non ambitious people who grew up in smalll towns, often tend to stay in small towns, even if they move somewhere else.

Low wages are a feature of regional towns, alway have been! Sky high rents and property prices are a feature everywhere in Australia. Thats why Australains standard of living is falling

On-tap entertainemnt isnt that important to most of the Austrlaian population, nor is culture. They just want to live somewhere comfortable and perhaps live it up just once a year when they go on holidays.

Coming from a boring hot rural savannah landscape in Qld, Albury-Wodonga has a lot to offer for me, despite it having the same problems as other towns. You're never going to get away from crime and drugs, they are everywhere. Over all its a tidy town, with temperatures and landscapes that suit me. Apart form the smell from the pet food factory (if you are near it), Im not aware of any major problms in the area?
