Swanbourne

"A Monet - looks great from a distance but full of black spots up close."

Opulent houses on tiny blocs so no trees, just concrete noise tunnels. Non-stop barking dogs and noisy pumps at your front door so the locals shut themselves in and crank up the air-conditioner. You don't live here if you can't afford expensive rents and even more expensive utilities bills. People keep to themselves. Fairly quiet during the week but the weekend sees the Harley/Classic car set treat it as their playground. The parks and beaches are sensational. Public transport is great. The train runs every fifteen minutes and nothing quite like the reassuring sound as it pulls into the station of an evening. The Fremantle Doctor hits early and on a hot night it is delightful to wander the coast as the sun sets or walk the streets dotted with houses of a bygone era. However, I have lived all over Australia and haven't found the same sense of entitlement as I do in Swanbourne. It can be difficult to deal with. For instance I have lived in Double Bay and Mosman, Sydney and there is a sense of mutual respect to do the right thing by your neighbors. The 'Old money' philosophy I guess which seems to be lacking here.
