American River

"Why live any where else?"

This small country town offers peace and quiet for the retired or holiday maker. It is where the bush meets the sea. It looks out over the north facing Eastern Cove, whose sheltered waters are a bonanza for the fisherman - with the renown King George Whiting top of the list. The township sits beside a large tidal inlet, which links with the vast Pelican Lagoon, an aquatic reserve. As well as fishing, both in the inlet, cove and further a field, the inlet hosts a fleet of local yachts and cruisers, in the safe anchorage. Jetty, wharf and boat ramp, with pontoon service the boating needs. For those who pleasure is watching the wild life, Tamar Wallabies roam the town at night and pelicans glide effortlessly in the thermals. Sea Eagles and Osprey hunt up and down the foreshore. Many bush walks lead away from the town and a choice of great beaches a short drive. The town is well serviced by the local store, which also sells fuel, and the town has two motels with restaurants and there is always The Shed a community based club. The local oyster are also a treat - and totally fresh. Kangaroo Island has regular air and vehicular ferry service operating several times a day. It is also has a fine hospital and ambulance and fire service. The climate is mild and temperate, with none of the extremes that are experienced in some other areas. Why would you live any where else?
