"Ok for family life"
We have lived in Clarinda for 9 years and find that it's a very central location. If you own a car it you can access major shopping centres (Chadstone and Southland), DFO, golf courses, M1 freeway, markets, unis, schools, gym, restaurants etc. within 10-15min drive. So ultra convenient! But we have noticed a lot more trucks and traffic over the years, though traffic is probably an overall issue experienced by suburbs in Melbourne in the last 5-7 years.
Unfortunately there are unsightly tips in Clarinda that create terrible smells mainly during summer (happened a handful of times last summer). Houses are generally affordable for somewhere not too far from CBD. Another downside is the quality of public secondary schools in the area leaves a lot to be desired. There are plenty of private schools in close proximity.
Great for
- Low crime rate
- Friendly people
- Close to beaches
- Peaceful
- Proximity
- Shopping
Not great for
- Lack of quality public secondary schools
- Overhead electricity towers
- Surrounded by tips/landfills
Who lives here?
- Professionals
- Families with kids
- Retirees
- Students
I lived over 20 years and sometime your lucky to smell the tips 5 times a year its one of the safest family suburbs in Melbourne
