St Andrews Beach

"Great for a holiday or if you are retired"

Heard alot of great things about St Andrews beach, and yep it would be great if you dont have to work or want a holiday. Public transport is limited, neighbours are noisy and too far out from the basic things. Forget about great internet, it doesnt happen even with telstra.

I have to disagree, you must have had a bad experience in your specific location. I have lived here for 8 years and yes public transport is limited but there is a bus that runs every hour or so (though I never see anyone catching it). I never hear any neighbours at all, just the sound of the surf - perhaps you are living near a holiday rental property which could be problematic. In most parts of the Peninsula you have to expect to drive to get to shops and other services.
And as far as internet goes - I work in IT and am happy with the internet compared to other parts of the Peninsula. I have ADSL and get about 6 - 7 MBps. The problem is because the NBN has been proposed Telstra won't upgrade any local network infrastructure but the NBN isn't going to come through here for at least a few years. I can tell you that the problem is widespread over the Peninsula including all of the Rye back beach area, Safety Beach and large parts of Rosebud and Mount Martha to name a few. Telstra are pushing their wireless 4G option as the alternative until the NBN comes through instead of adding more ports to the local exchanges. If you want to complain about it I suggest you write to Senator Stephen Conroy like I did. Our federeal member Greg Hunt has been doing what he can as well.
It's a shame that you don't like the area, I find it a great place to live.

Very well said Pat555.
It sounds as though you have had a negative experience with neighbours etc.

Just as an update to the above, Telstra upgraded the ADSL infrastructure in the area about 18 months ago and I now get 16-17Mbs download speed on ADSL2+. This is as good as anywhere if you are not on the NBN.

What plan are you on because Telstra can only offer me 25GB on the broadband wireless 4G advanced & cradle? Still it keeps dropping out!!

We are on the XL bundle (https://www.telstra.com.au/bundles) but we use a lot of data. If you type your address in at that link it will tell you if ADSL is available in your area. You can also ring Bigpond on 137-663 and ask if ADSL2+ is available at your address. And if you need further help, just call The Techo (www.thetecho.com.au) - that's me :-)
