Ascot Vale

"Why didn't we live here earlier!"

We have been in Ascot Vale for 1.5 years now. It was a toss up between here and Ivanhoe as we were moving to have access to parks, cafes, great schools and lovely older period homes. The house we fell in love with sits high on a hill overlooking "the vale" and the city. Flocks of birds fly past to our delight. Those white cockys are very cheeky and the rosellas stunning. I simply can't believe we didn't move here earlier.

Each day we usually get out and about for a walk with our young children visiting the soooo many parks around us. We have had to give them nicknames to the children know which one we are going to! "Timber Park" near the Leisure centre is a gem for little ones. So much greenery around! We also love walking along the river and I hop across the river to do Park Run on Saturday mornings ().

We grab our coffee or yummy breakfasts from Middle Child Cafe, No. 19 Society (brand new), Union Food & Wine or Ascot Food Store. Spoilt for choice really. Often this causes indecision, but never bad food. We usually walk to counter the fact our eyes are bigger than our tummies. We usually stop at Union Road and load up on gourmet breads (hello Organic Bakehouse), gourmet produce (hello Food Works - do those Noisette pastries have many calories?!), fresh fruit/veg (hello Happy Apple) and swing past the local butcher and newsagents (huge with great gifts). By this point we usually run out of cash and often don't make it to the quiet end where lovely little shops sit and a new coffee shop & icecream parlour. The people we meet along our way are diverse and friendly. Santa is even known to pop over to Union Road!

Who are we? Busy parents, two professionals, people who love to get out & about on the weekends, coffee addicts, a family, friendly neighbours, wanna-be runners and supporters of the Ascot Vale community.

What don't we like? The occasional congestion near the Showgrounds for a handful of events (but on the plus side we walk to the MELBOURNE Show!). The increased traffic that passes through Epsom Rd due to poor outer west infrastructure.

What did we really not expect? Driving to the city in 15-20 minutes. Holy Moly living in IVANHOE would have killed us! What a luxury! Public transport is very quick into town too. We also didn't expect we would use the Moonee Ponds shops or the cafes in Kensington.

Ok enough said. I need to pop over to the Showgrounds Coles to pick up lunch provisions. Might grab an All Press Coffee and some raisin brioche from the Larder...

Ps. Feel very safe here & happy to raise our Children in AV
