Richmond

"Vibrant suburb but rough around the edges"

I bought a townhouse last year after moving from the burbs. It’s between Victoria Street and bridge road. Lovely part of Richmond. More suburbia and community feel. Traffic can be busy in the street during peak hour as they cut through otherwise it’s very quiet. It’s far enough aware from bars, clubs and the nightlife. I haven’t found parking to be an issue except sometimes people park in the street and commute to the CBD (and risk parking inspectors). Best part is everything is at my doorstep and within walking distance- Citizens park, Yarra bend park, bridge road, Victoria gardens, the library, Richmond recreation, local doctors and heaps of eateries on bridge road and Victoria Street. It’s so close the city as well! 4 major stores- Aldi, woolies Coles and Kmart within 600 metres and walking distance. The junkies and heroin users are around occasionally. I have found one passed out in the lane backing my place and at the park both times I had to call an ambulance. Otherwise sometimes they loiter around the back streets but they keep to themselves usually. I rarely walk alone after dark but I wouldn’t do it anywhere now as there is too much risk in any suburb for a female. It’s a great Suburb with so many positives but if I have children I will move by the time they are at school age as it isn’t as safe as other suburbs.
