Beenleigh

"Inexpensive, nice parks, but not safe."

I'm a bit stumped by these good reviews. I've lived in suburbs with varying socio economics and I can't say Beenleigh has impressed me at all. I've never felt safe at night and won't even go for an evening stroll. If there was any doubt to this fact then the recent quadruple stabbing at the local Maccas may prove my point. Even in the day time it doesn't feel very safe or friendly, having a courthouse in the middle of the town as well as Parole office means many convicted or alleged criminals need to pass through. Every single house in our street has been broken into and cars have many times been keyed, even acid & paint stripper thrown on them by vandles. It's over 40 minutes away from either brisbanes CBD or the Gold Coast so if you want anywhere interesting to go it's quite a trip.
But I'm not a pessimist... for the pros, there is a large BMX track - not my thing but there's lots of kids that seem to enjoy it. Lots of parks, especially in the neighbouring suburbs like Holmview & Waterford, there's some great Public BBQ spots too. Plenty of schools around to choose from and close to the Logan Hospital. I would never again choose to live here but it is very affordable.

Great for

  • Nice parks nearby
  • Affordable for families
  • Lots of schools

Not great for

  • High Crime rate
  • Long drive to the City
  • No decent shops

Who lives here?

  • Families with kids
  • Retirees

When I moved to Beenleigh from Helensvale a few years ago, my parents were worried. A few months later they had they guy go into the Helensvale Maccas and shoot his ex-girlfriend then himself. They had to rethink saying that Beenleigh was dangerous. I think bad things can happen ANYWHERE now. I think there are criminals in every town. Maybe they're just not as well dressed in Beenleigh. Still think it's a great town with loads of potential.

I agree that bad thing could happen anywhere. I lived in Sydney downtown for 6 years before moving to Beenleigh and lived there for 4 years (with2 little kids). Now I live in the USA. Beenleigh is safer than downtown Sydney And many places in the USA.

I truly feel these negative reviews are from people who are being displaced from a community which has evolved from being an area which previously did offer those a secure home for those unfortunate to afford other locations.

However due to Beenleighs strategic location being the hub of SEQ Beenleigh has already gone through amazing property value growth and is continuing to do so which means previous residents are struggling to remain in Beenleigh an are having to move to find more affordable housing losing the all the benefits Beenleigh offers
