Rouse Hill
5th September 2024

"Lost potential"

After living in Rouse Hill for many years, I have watched Rouse Hill transform into a suburb where unfortunately the negatives now outweigh the positives and have now decided to relocate.

The last 3-5 years especially has seen an influx of certain demographics. This includes first home buyers, young, and migrant families, enticed by the lure of relatively cheap housing and convenience due to the metro. This extends to surrounding areas such as The Ponds, Schofield, Box Hill and Kellyville.

The metro and it's connection directly into the city is a key selling point. The journey now takes approximately 40min and also connects to other major suburbs such as Macquarie and Chatswood. The carparks associated with these stations are now full by 7am on weekdays. Metro behavior has diminished. For example, what was once a civil and orderly process of boarding the metro now involves people pushing in, blocking entrances, trying to get on before others can get off, and fighting for seats. Although not unique to Rouse Hill, the station and Town Centre is also a hangout spot for delinquents, but are generally harmless

If you are driving, Windsor Rd is the main road connecting these places. Traffic has significantly increased not only during peak hours but also on weekends, creating bottlenecks particularly around the Sunnyholt Rd intersection and further down towards Seven Hills. This will be further exacerbated by the sheer number of housing developments and once the hospital has been completed. There has been a large increase in international drivers who have yet to accustom to Australian driving norms. Beware of crossing at pedestrian crossings as there is now a tendency for these drivers to not check, or purposefully force their way through when a pedestrian is attempting to cross.

There is a beautiful regional park which is superb for walks at sunset. What was once a local gem has seen an increase in popularity for photography in recent years. At times this can disturb the peace with multiple groups looking to take family and wedding photos.

Dwellings have been built quickly and haphazardly to accommodate the general housing demand. It is important to perform proper due diligence when purchasing, as many are riddled with issues. This is particularly evident in apartment buildings, and reinforced by the recent uptick in sales listings and owners/investors selling their properties at a loss.

Food options are limited with a lack of variety and quality choices. Fast food and food court quality options thrive in this area.

In summary, Rouse Hill is a suburb which could not live up to its full potential. This is mainly due to failures in housing, infrastructure and immigration policies. lnfrastructure and housing has not been adequately built to accomodate the current and increasing levels of population, with undesirable types of people now becoming a significant proportion of the population in the area.

Have to totally agree, moved into Rouse Hill with a young family in 2021, and it was great and peaceful and had a semi rural feel about it, and within 4 years i have decided to leave for all of the stated reasons. And just to add, once Greenhills Drive is extended straight through to Commercial road (already approved), this will become an alternate thoroughfare for trucks and traffic trying to bypass the Annagrove/Old Windsor road congestion. Such a shame, as poor planning, greed and an open door policy to anyone has ruined a great little area.
