Surfers Paradise

"Excellent spot for a second home, but for the hoons and loud-mouthed drunks."

We have an apartment a couple of blocks along the beachfront from Cavill Avenue. We spend more than half our time here since the purchase in mid 2020. We have holidayed from Brisbane, many times for many years but normally keep clear of Surfers. As far as position, beach and amenities we are very happy and pleasantly surprised that we enjoy the cosmopolitanism and vibe of the town.
The main road that the trams run on, needs urgently updating as it has too many dodgy joints and empty shops and I think the repercussions of the virus might actually create a blessing in disguise.
Our only real complaint is the dreadful noise at times. Many days are very pleasant, environment wise, but too many hoons drive their noisy bikes and Ferraris round and round the streets, both day and night. They gun their motors from corner to corner so as to make the most noise possible. I have come to the conclusion that the local politicians and police think this adds to the atmosphere but I am sure they are dead wrong.
The other issue is the noise from drunks leaving the nightclubs at 3.00 am. Many wander the streets and for some reason, feel that shouting at one another is the right thing to do. No one wants to stop their reasonable enjoyment nor change the vibe in Surfers but I feel a little bit more low key policing could improve this place immensely, especially for families.

This post is spot on. If the politicians and police tried a little harder, this would be an excellent place to live. Of course, it is not everyone's cup of tea but with the exception of the low life drunks at 3.00am and the brain-dead hoons , it is a vibrant pleasant place.
I wrote to the local council rep about the hoons and drunks and was told it's part of the "ambience".
I found this site in the hope there may be a group of people interested in improving Surfers.
