Melton

"A cheap area that comes at a price"

I was born in Melton, I've lived here my entire life and I've witnessed the transformation of it in recent years. Melton originally was a cheap town with a Country feel that was a good distance from the city of Melbourne. Having grown up here, i can say the facilities available have improved immensely, we have a bulk billing healthcare facility, though the doctors are generally from third world Countries with third world practices, I wouldn't go there for anything serious. We also have good shopping facilities that have grown in recent years. Melton is still very cheap for families and singles alike, the major drawback is like most cheap areas, it attracts crime. The main issues are drug abuse, trafficking , home invasions, gang violence, theft etc. The local Police rarely respond to calls for assistance and if they do, it's late and often unhelpful. Safety is a real concern living here. Melton also plays host to a major growing population of Sudanese among other refugee's. This is a growing problem with the difficulty in cultures and lack of proper integration into the community, leaving locals dealing with the local governments mess. In my honest opinion, Melton is an option if you need to live in the western suburbs and can't afford somewhere nicer and safer

Great for

  • Cost of Living.
  • Local facilities to suit all needs.
  • Resale Value.
  • Large blocks affordable prices

Not great for

  • Major Crime
  • Gang Violence
  • Vline needs more services.
  • Woodgrove needs its expansion
  • Would need a clean up of the suburb has bad reputation for being a rough area

Who lives here?

  • Singles
  • Families with kids
  • Students

So true. I've been living here for 8 months and I can't stand the amount of rude people and crime. I'm definitely going to move when I get the chance.

Good move in leaving Melton when you can Daniel!

After reading many honest truths of Melton being like the area I live in Perth. I need employment sooner than later from my qualification this year. To be able to move into a more decent metropolitan area as a home owner. Which is more suited to my enjoyments and needs to be happy.

Home is where the heart is, learning this with Perth never feeling like home, Am a Sydney Girl, used to visit Victoria twice a year. Including one visit when Parramatta Eels play there. First visit I fell in love with the city, never gone away wanting to live there permanently.
