Manolas Way

"Street history"

What a surprise to see this little residential street on the internet. Why? What is so interesting about it? Why was it so named ? Why am i interested enough to write this ?
Though i have not lived in Western Australia for some 30 years, this street was named after me. Reason. As a leading manufacturer of prefabricated buildings [Florida brand steel- framed car ports, garden sheds and site/ rural buildings]. I supplied quality made, reliably erected, car ports and garden storage sheds to the Federal Govt. armed services residences, throughout the Perth metro area.Through mass production, continued supply improvements and and large materials purchasing ability, our low tender price was maintained for many years, The tender and administration of the program was conducted by the [previously known as] State Housing Commission. A phone call from a senior officer advising that SHC had proposed my name to the State Nomenclature Committee for the development of the [then] new suburb of Girrawheen.I was told street names were to be those of reliable, long- term suppliers to SHC. and was asked if i approved of the use of my name. Of course the flattery bought a quick 'yes' from me.Years later i visited the street, took some photos and am able to tell my grand children about Manolas Way, in Western Australia. Some background info about this little street. James Anthony Manolas..
