Wahroonga

"Wahroonga - the aboriginal word for our home"

We moved to Wahroonga 4 years ago and keep discovering new and wonderful things. The neighbours are wonderful. Not instrusive, but communual when it comes to street parties, trick or treating, or national celebrations. I like that we know them, but don't see them all the time! The streets are green and leafy. Wahroonga is known as the green village. Shopping options are good with St Ives shopping village, hornsby westfield, Belrose homemaker centre, castle hill mega shopping area and chatswood mall all close by. We are spoilt for choice. We also have all the village shops too in many surrounding places. The northern beaches aren't far either. Grabbing a coffee and having a chat is easy and you can easily find a setting to suit the mood: secluded garden catch up or busy cafe, people watching cafes. There are a multitude of restaurants too. Not such a good choice for Hotels / pubs - but certainly the restaurants make up for that. Parking is easy at the train stations (40 mins to the city) and around the roads and parks. Medical facilities are wonderful. We have Hornsby hospital and the SAN private hospital (reknowned for maternity and elderly care) a short stones throw distance. My little girl gashed her head the other day and we went from home to hospital back to home in 30 mins. There are also lots of medical and dental practices around. Childcare is prolific too and of course people move to the area just to be close to the private schools... knox, abbotsleigh etc. Gym and fitness I've rated highly because we have a lot of outdoor exercising areas, bike tracks, dog walking areas, sports grounds and organised fitness. Yes we have the gyms, but we seem to be predominately an outdoor bunch up here - probably because we are so close to such great facilities provided by the council. House prices are high - and tend not to vary much regardless of what is going on in the world - but that's because people move here to live, have fun and stay knowing that it is a safe friendly environment. It's a wonderful area with fantastic facilities. I can't imagine ever moving house!
