Eight mile plains is only 10 min from the city (by car) and 25-30 min (by bus).. It is very close to a major shopping centre - Garden city. Proximity to restaurants - the glen hotel, sunnybank for those people who like asian food, nandos, etc. Eight mile plains bus stop is one of the busiests bus stops in Brisbane. With the introduction of UQ buses, it is getting really hard to get parking spots. There are quite a number of child care centres for families.

Lutwyche is getting really busy with infrastructure development - northern busway.. It is close to CBD, hospital, school, QUT, parks.. excellent suburb for young/old couples, singles, families and even retirees.
