Port Douglas

"A small town that thinks it's Noosa"

Since my 3rd trip to this resort in 2019, I found that on my trip in May 2021, prices of tours had at least doubled! Car hire for one day is $255! Most restaurants will only take advanced bookings and are really rude about fitting you in! The average price for a main is $50. Last time I went, it was $28. The cost of 1 beer and 2 glasses of house white at the central hotel - $46! Retail stores are horrendously over priced and the quality of clothing is generally poor. Having extensively travelled in Europe and visited the markets in Italy, I found it astounding that a pair of linen pants at 20 Euro's suddenly costs $179! I will never ever go back there. The resort is just rorting fellow AUSTRALIANS

Scott, get a van and stay in a place 6 months, check out all the hidden aspects before you buy. Beauty is a thin veneer... beauty is also deceitful. People who have businesses which a]it's very hard to compensate for inelegant people no matter how stunning the scenery. Foul humans foul the most beautiful of places.

my cat jumped on my computer and pressed send... People who have businesses in 'seasonal' regions can become predatory out of what they think is necessity or a survival mode... they prey on tourism dollars... (aka the crocodile, the snake, the cat). It's the international backpackers and family of family already living out here make the trek to AU - young enough to not be here for long enough for it to matter and the latter are a little insulated by their family's local knowledge at least. Traveling to most parts of Australia is a ghastly and expensive ORDEAL. It isn't a pleasure to stay and move about like italy, france, uk, spain, usa, etc. The wealthy/born-bred/long term locals in the beautiful parts of Australia don't want anyone encroaching on "their" space and typically resort to hostility in order to repel newcomers to protect their little bubble. Get a van, suss it out. It's good you are on homely checking out the good, the bad and the ugly.
