"A nightmare and a big regret"

I recently bought an apartment in North Parramatta, adjacent to a housing commission block on Fennell Street (recently found out), and unfortunately the experience has brought nothing but stress and heartbreak to me and my family.

Looking back, I really wish I had done more research and paid closer attention to some of the reviews from people who had actually lived in the area. I inspected and visited the property during the day and, at the time, everything seemed relatively normal. What I didn’t realise was how different the environment could feel at night.

From my own experience living there, there has been a noticeable police presence, frequent disturbances, shouting and hostile behaviour that can be heard from surrounding properties, as well as behaviour in the street that I personally found extremely confronting and unpleasant. It is completely different from the impression I had when I was only visiting during daytime inspections.

North Parramatta definitely has some beautiful, green and peaceful streets, and I can understand why people enjoy living in those pockets. Unfortunately, my experience in this particular part of Fennell Street has been very different.

If you’re considering purchasing an apartment in North Parramatta, especially around the larger unit complexes, please do far more due diligence than I did. Visit the street repeatedly at different times of the day and night, speak to neighbours, read local reviews, research the surrounding properties and pay for a thorough building and strata inspection before committing.

I wish I had done all of that before buying. I’m now seriously considering moving because the reality of living here has been so different from what I thought I was purchasing.
