Rhodes

"Rhodes was fantastic but getting worse and expensive"

I have been living in the West part of Rhodes for about 2 years now. 2 years ago, it was fantastic; new, quite, modern, almost perfect for me and my wife as young professionals.

Now, a lot of new apartments have been built so a lot of people moved in Rhodes which means this area is getting messier and noisier. Especially those people, who brining their kids in the playground at night and having a picnic there, are so noisy; you can imagine kids screaming and crying at 10-11pm, just can't fall in a sleep.

If you don't care those noises and love screaming & crying kids, Rhodes will be good for you. If not, think again.

Great for

  • Close to shopping centre and IKEA
  • New (modern) developments
  • Railway line
  • Facilities for walking pets

Not great for

  • Overpriced

Who lives here?

  • Professionals
  • Singles

this is what happen if you don't do your suburb research properly and just buy into whatever developers were marketing towards middle class workers.... it will get worse because renters will sub-divide the apartments...

So negative your comments. Rhodes has a lot of upsides but your are stuck in negative world.

PeterG1 : take your head out of the sand. Rhodes has no positive side except it had new shiny buildings and now it is decaying.....

Angry Arbor. You sound bitter about something to be so outspoken. Rhodes literally has water all around it with kilometres of bike paths and walkways, open space everywhere, shops, cafes, Olympic park, DFO, paddys markets, good mix of restaurants. Rhodes is fully on the move with new bridge joining us to Wentworth point + new schools and building basically completed (except for new Rhodes Central retail and residential complex@ $342 million next to train station). Cars are a problem but if you live here you walk everywhere. Trolleys are the real problem from lazy people and the odd mattress dumped by a lazy student. And no pub, however Concord hotel is great and walking distance. Rhodes station could do with an upgrade to handle peak times but I walk to Concord west station to avoid that crowd . People should come visit and check it out. It's unlike older Sydney suburbs but that's part of the appeal.
