Yungaburra is a small town, of historic interest, situated on the Atherton Tableland, just south of Cairns. It has a brilliant climate - much cooler than Cairns in summer and just cold enough to nestle up to a cosy fire in winter. Summer nights rarely go above 16 degrees Celsius and the days rarely above 25 degrees. Take 10 degrees off these figures for winter. Views of Lake Tinaroo are to be found from many properties, especially on the Lakeside Estate

Population is around 1,000, with a good mix of families, and retired and working couples. There is a primary school, a supermarket, a Post Office, chemist and medical practice, butcher, restaurants and an historic hotel, the Yungaburra Pub - well worth a visit for its North Queensland timber panelling. Each October, the town is the venue for the famous Yungaburra Folk Festival.

It's a great place to live - and to fish on Lake Tinaroo, swim in or walk around the nearby crater lakes, Eacham and Barrine, and to have a relaxed weekend if not a permanent resident. I made the choice to live here 16 years ago and have not regretted it for one minute. Parking is never difficult on the Tableland, and there is nary a traffic light to be seen. Within 75 km commuting distance of Cairns and the Barrier Reef, Yungaburra is close to all the big city amenities,but just far enough away from the hustle and bustle to be a real gem of a place to live.
