Henry Street

"West Croydon fan"

We have recently moved to West Croydon from the Eastern suburbs and are absolutely loving it . Our old Italian neighbours generously give us olive oil from the homegrown olives in their huge garden and our other neighbours keep ducks . And the beautiful Greek lady across the road sharing her beautiful greek biscuits at Easter and minded the dogs when we went away !

It has a very inner city Melbourne feeling about it . There is a strip of cafes , a bakery , vinatge stores and some other really quirky stores . There is a great park around the corner where people congrgate on summer nights and 2 other parks within walking distance . The local school has a lovely community feel , is small and is a part of the Stephanie Alexander gardening project . My children love it , and that we stroll to school rather then do the mad morning rush .

The train stop is a 5 minute walk and it takes about 7 minutes to get into the city . Port rd is great as it has 3 lanes and flows nicely , I'm rarely stuck in traffic . Apparently the Port rd trams will be continued down to Port Adelaide soon .

On our first Sunday morning here we were walking to the cafe when a person getting their morning paper off the front lawn shouted to us ' mornin' ..nice day for it ' . My husband and I looked at each other wondering if we knew them . Turns out they were just doing the neighbourly thing and warmly welcoming us into a community that feels like a neighbourhood from a time when life was simpler , safer and slower .
