"Unbiased Review"
Mt. Pleasant is a meh of a suburb. Better than some places, and surely worse than others.
This review is unbiased opinion and not from some random folk supporting their place of residence.
I give this place an unbiased 1 star because:
- It's clearly overgrown and a majority of the homes were built in the 1970s and are therefore past their prime years. I wouldn't consider building in this suburb either because of the bloody awful slopes and dips which are an absolute nightmare disaster for any construction project.
- Trees, trees, trees and protected trees. Not only are councils incredibly fussy with removing natives, the massive trees in this part of the world also uproot plumbing and cause pipe blockages, not to mention are flammable and attract termites which eat your timber house structure to shreds.
- Ocean views are best enjoyed by the ocean and not from afar. You miss the ocean sounds from this location in replacement for sounds from 10 gear trucks braking down the mountain. I'd hate to know how much carcinogenic diesel particles have embedded themselves into the soil over the years. I wouldn't grow a fruit tree or a vegetable here or allow my kids to play with the contaminated soil.
- Rain flows down the mountain slopes and Mt. Pleasant is first to receive the brunt. Water runs down the sloped driveways and into garages if the door doesn't seal properly. Who wants that?
- Living here requires a vehicle or athlete leg muscles unlike more convenient locations in the Illawarra where decent shopping is less than 5 min walk away.
- Visually, I seldom hear visitors breaking their neck to visit Mount Pleasant when visiting Wollongong. Usually they opt for the Botanic Gardens, Wollongong Beach, the light house or somewhere closer to actual food. The WCC seem to invest most of the money elsewhere and probably for a reason? But again, beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Some enjoy steep slopes, big gums and associated miniature wildlife.
My recommendation is to compare this place to others which do not have the listed problems above.
Ultimately you choose and decide where you would like to live. For me, there's too much wrong with this place to invest any money.
