Wellington Point

"Point of no return"

I was raised in Wello and since returning in my adulthood, looks wise it hasn't changed all that much. Traffic in the mornings down the main road can get a bit backed up due to Redlands college and the high school in close proximity with limited access. Same could be said near the primary school. There are frequently car accidents near the high school so you have to be cautious. There is sometimes congestion near Birkdale Fair, another hot spot for prangs. Have also noticed more 'hooning' around over the last couple of years too, can hear them at night and see burn-out marks on roads. I would say it's generally pretty safe but much like any other area - there is good and bad. A few beggars loiter around the local shops almost every day asking people for money, have seen them at both Birkdale Fair and the near the woodwork's on Main Rd, Wellington Point - both close to primary schools which is concerning. As other reviews have said, the trains runs into the city for an easy commute, however it does take between 50-55 mins one way and with jobs in the local areas quite scarce it leaves little options. The commute also takes its toll after a while as an almost 2 hr commute daily. It's generally a 45min drive to the city depending on traffic and with the cost of parking, the train is the best option. Not much in the way of activities if you're interested in art or culture, e.g dance classes, art classes, museum, theatre, general entertainment close by. Nope, you'll need to go into the city for that. If you're into boxing, you'll be in luck - plenty of boxing gyms and softball close by. Same old restaurants on Main Rd as there were 20 years ago. On the plus side, there is Redlands Sporting club which has a restaurant, bowls and cricket grounds, as well plenty of pokie machines if that's your kind of thing. The Point is one of my favourite spots, take a walk out to King Island when the tide is out. It's always packed and buzzing with people on the weekend so you have to be lucky to find a park and a spot to park your picnic blanket. It does have a very small patrolled 'beach' where they ship in white sand to make it look proper but essential its mangrove area so under the sand is mud and red dirt. Plenty of fish to be caught and sharks to be spotted if you are a water sports kind of person. While the car park is usually full there are still usually a few boat/trailer parks free on the weekends. There's a great park/playground for a lovely day with the family. Neighbours all keep to themselves which is nice. All in all, not a bad place to live but not ideal either, it's just getting too crowded and with the geographical layout of the area, its fast losing it's appeal.
