We bought a two-bed cottage in Umina in 2008 as an investment. Very run down so we got it very cheaply, renovated -- and ended up getting $30 more a week in rental than we were expecting. Its a beautiful beautiful area, and people do want a quality house to live in. (Slumlords take note!) We were up there a lot while we were renovating, and the neighbours were wonderful, the locals friendly, and everyone you talk to honestly thinks they live in godzone. Only an hour and 15 minutes to Sydney, and a 10 minute walk to the beach. We can't believe it's still so cheap.
