Parkinson

"Not for everyone"

We lived in Parkinson for 12 years and have kept our old family home as a rental. The suburb was quite good when we first move in but we kind of outgrew it and moved to acreage further out. Over time the suburb has became much more crowded with the associated traffic problems. When we moved in, there were a lot of young kids around the neighborhood. Now they have grown up and there are problems with hooning. Initially we found the suburb to have some neighborhood spirit but this seems to have reduced somewhat and people have become more insular. I have actually found Algester to be a friendlier place. The facilities (shopping etc) are good but tend to be on the expensive side. The property prices are also a bit on the high side for houses which, in many cases, are approaching 30 years old. From what I can tell, the suburb seems to capture some of the spill over from neighbouring more expensive suburbs like Sunnybank and Calamvale; buyers who can't afford to buy in Sunnybank or Calamvale buy in Parkinson. Regrettably, some the elitist attitudes seem to follow. Parkinson is a fair way out, being right on the southern boundary of Brisbane. The bus service is good but it can take a ""long""" time to get to the city. In the end we gave up on the bus service and drove. Would we live there again ? Probably not. It's an okay suburb and we get good rental returns on our investment property. However, in the end we found the suburb to be suffocating and simply outgrew it.
