The Gap

"Peaceful Location"

This is the second time I have lived here, in a rental. We are at the Mt Nebo end of The Gap with the leafy reserve across the road. Bush tracks galore, bike path, Mt Coot-tha, Yoorala St Community Garden, the dog off-leash park, heaps of dog walkers who pick up after their dogs and committed conservationists who volunteer their time to keep the bush surrounds shipshape. No, it's not a trendy coffee precinct or a shopping Mecca but if you're keen to wake up to the call of kookaburras, The Gap is the place to be. Well serviced by buses with a Park'n'Ride at the foot of Mt Nebo, it's no more congested than any other suburb. Coles, and now Aldi, service The Gap Village, and no less than 4 medical centres with other shops and services. Gap Creek Road connects our end of The Gap with Kenmore (a 10 min drive) through the reserve, and out to Ipswich or Toowoomba. It's probably the most community-minded place in which I've lived, where neighbours mostly seem to know one another. Certainly at our end they do. I'll often take the drive up and over Mt Nebo & Mt Glorious, down the other side and stop at the utterly delectable Old Fernvale Bakery on the way back - a fresh cream chocolate eclair, if you must know, and sometimes one of the many loaves of bread baked fresh daily. It will be hard to prise me loose from The Gap. But that's just me.
