Ferny Hills

"Value for money"

After living in New Farm for a couple of years, I wanted to buy a flat there. For the price of a small 2 bed flat with no outdoor living and no river views, I was able to buy a 4 bed, 2 bath house with generous block in Ferny Hills.

The upsides of my street? Cheap, very quiet, neat, tidy, close to the train station/park/school/pool, close to local shops and post office. I now spend a lot of time at home, enjoying the garden and entertaining area.

The downsides? I miss the cafes in New Farm and being relatively close to a range of cultural centres, like the Powerhouse and QPAC (ok, QPAC isn't in New Farm, but there is a direct bus to it which doesn't take long). I have also had to buy a car since I've moved to Ferny Hills as there are not too many buses, nor are they particularly frequent.

All in all, as I edge towards me 30s, I am happy to move somewhere quieter for the peace it affords me, even if I miss the convenience of city living.

Who lives here?

  • Families with kids
