St Lucia

"Best of Brisbane"

I've owned and lived in properties in Sherwood, Chapel Hill, Brookfield, Toowong and St Lucia and without a doubt St Lucia beats the rest by far. There is plenty of public transport - buses, city cats and trains. It is close to Toowong Village and Indooroopilly Shopping Centre. There are small local shopping centres at St Lucia Village and at Gailey Road fiveways. You would be within walking distance of one of them whereever you lived in St Lucia. There are lots of cheap restaurants down the university end of St Lucia. Trendy eating areas like Rosalie, Paddington etc are within 10mins. There are excellent private and state schools in the area or in the next suburb. The area is a pleasant mix of older Queenslander style homes, contempory houses and townhouses and high rise units. Yes there are university students in the area - 'cause there's a university. I guess if you lived in one of 6 pack type unit blocks there could be issues but that could happen anywhere. It would be unwise to buy in the flood prone areas of St Lucia but they are cheap now and you do get a river view. I suggest sticking to the ridges along Hawken Dve and Carmody Road.
