Virginia

"Underrated and Bang for your Buck!"

We lived in Wavell Heights off Shaw Rd and loved the locality. But we bought a house off Coonarang St which is actually Virginia but borders Wavell Heights. Noticed no reviews for Virginia so let's start it.

This part of Virginia is great! Quiet with the massive park behind us. 6kms of walking/bike track and leads you straight to Westfield Chermside. We have Virginia train station behind us and you can't hear the train (maybe a little at home during the day). It is only 600m from us and is direct to the city.

Food: We have a great Fish n Chips store around the corner (Trawler's) and kebab shop. If you need a feed elsewhere, Chermside has a range of restaurants but also on Sandgate Rd up towards the commercial hub, you have a Macca's, Hungry Jacks, Zaraffa's, Indian, Zambrero, Baskin & Robbin's. KFC is down Deagon or Chermside as well. Cafe's around Wavell Heights or we go to Toombul and eat there.

Schools: Virginia State School is a well respective primary school and we are just outside of the Wavell State High School border but our son goes there so they are pretty lenient to that. Earnshaw State High School we were never going to use but our little girl does go to St Pius in Banyo.
Transport: Like I said above, Virginia train station is only 600m behind us and great bus transport on Goss Road/Bilsen Rd. Of course Sandgate Road has a great bus system to either Toombul or Chermside Bus stations.

Area: Our street is mostly young families and professionals. The majority are home owners in the area. A few renters but not too many. More so on the Banyo side of Virginia which we still like. But a very family friendly and professional living suburb.

Outdoors and Fitness: We have a 24 hour gym on Hamilton Rd and also the bike, walking track in the massive green outdoor area. There are 2 dog parks behind us as well as heaps of open space. Also have a recycling hub just behind us in Geebung which is walking distance (as I take my little girl on her bike with her recycling there). Plus multiple gyms down Nundah.

Overall, this is a great neighbourhood and you won't be paying the price of Wavell Heights (given you may not get a view but you got easier public transport access). It is only 10kms from the city (so within the middle ring) and getting to the CBD is easy. We take trips up to Redcliffe a lot and that is easily just up Sandgate Rd. 20mins drive to North Lakes if Costco/IKEA if that is your thing.

You are only 5 minutes from Nundah, Toombul (if you want a Chermside alternative), 10mins to the airport, 20 mins drive to the city, 8 mins if that to the Gateway. It is a great alternative for a better, bigger home than you would pay in Clayfield, Nundah or Wavell Heights. I cannot think of any units in our area and a lot of home renovations or new builds popping up. New Bunnings being built at the Commercial hub that has everything (Chemist Warehouse, Auto Barn - Super Cheap in Nundah, Toy World, Stratco, Multiple gas stations, Post shop, Rebel Sport)....I think you get the picture.

I truly believe it is underrated in terms of house price growth and livability so get in while you can!
